Full iTel S13 Reviews

The design of the phone is inspired by Google pixel and it looks really cool. The rough band at the top of the device as well as the dual camera with the LED flash arrangement all remind one of the Google Pixel as the phone does not look much like its predecessor, the iTel S12. The iTel S13 comes with a fingerprint sensor indicating how far spread this technology has become. It is becoming quite impossible to use a mobile device without a fingerprint sensor these days. The scanner is placed at the back for almost mindless unlocking of the device and the single speaker is placed at the bottom of the phone. The front of the phone features a 5.5-inch Full-screen display which is quite impressive for its 480 x 960-pixel density. At the top side of the phone is a 13MP Selfie Camera as well as a single LED flash. The body of the phone is made of a cheap polycarbonate build. The phone has a non-premium feel which may be due to its size and weight. The back cover of the phone is removable and so is the battery. The dual SIM slots are hidden at the back of the device as is the microSD card slot for increasing memory.

The iTel S13 comes with a MediaTek MT6580 Quad-core 1.3GHz, ARM Cortex-A7 processor as well as a Mali-400 MP Graphics (GPU) processor. To the best of our knowledge, this processor is now an industry standard for entry-level Android Go devices. The likes of the Tecno Spark, iTel A32P, iTel P32 all run MediaTek MT6580 processor so it is quite possible that performance of these devices should be similar. The device gives a satisfactory performance as apps load in a second and lag or stutter is not to any noticeable degree. The usual Android games like the Temple Run and Candy crush all work fine on the device. You can effortlessly open multiple apps and switch between them almost instantly but bear in mind the device runs a moderate 1GB of RAM.

A while back, the iTel P32 was the first budget phone to feature a dual camera ensemble. The camera performance was short of remarkable for a device in the category and the iTel S13 replicates this same dual camera arrangement to give the user a great experience. The two rear cameras have autofocussed and they both shoot at a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. We couldn’t verify if both rear cameras are 5MP indeed or if it’s just one. Also, it is unknown what special effect each rear camera brings to the table and how it affects the end product. The 13MP front camera packs quite a few more pixels than the rear ones. The resolution, however, remains constant at 2560 x 1920 pixels. There is a lot of emphasis on the iTel S13 Selfie camera known with the slogan “Clearer Selfie.” There isn’t much in way of camera settings on the device, the modes you get include Lowlight, Pano [rama], Pro and Portrait. The only other thing you get is Masks which may not interest you. The output of the camera is indeed much better than you would expect. The white balance, aperture as well as the exposure are spot-on. The camera colors are vibrant and alive. The camera performance is okay overall.

The phone comes with a removable 2400mAh Li-Ion battery which isn’t much to write home about. The phone falls well below standard in this regard. Moderate usage of the device should get you through the day on a full battery. Android Go, as well as other performance and power tweaks on the phone, are optimized to consume as little battery as possible. The phone does not have fast charging technology so charging takes a few hours to complete using the default charger.

The device is a budget phone so the price isn’t really too high. In Nigeria, the starting price of the device is ₦24,000 which can be much more depending on your location in the country.

The S13 is a significant upgrade to its predecessor the S12. It features a much bigger screen, better resolution, better cameras, and a much better overall design. The battery capacity of both devices is, unfortunately, the same which is a low for the S13. Also, the S13 runs optimized Android Oreo Go Edition, unlike the S12. Android Go provides the device with performance and battery improvements, periodical system upgrades and also a few extras sprinkled here and there. Ultimately, the itel S13 is an entirely new device that is worth the extra money.
