The Nigerian Police regularly recruits young men and women into the force, but in order to be given more opportunities to excel in the force, you need to go through the police academy. Unfortunately, there is not much information available about the Nigeria police academy school fees and courses, so despite their interest, many prospective candidates are left in the dark, rather than explore the possibility of having great careers in the Nigeria Police Force.
At the Nigeria Police Academy, there are several courses that one could study; they are designed to give the student a better understanding of the makeup of the Nigerian society because the Nigerian police are saddled with the responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the people of Nigeria.
For those who know; the Nigeria police academy is one of the best places to gain in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the Nigerian society. From there on, one can have a great career in any part of the country, or in any field he desires.
Nigeria Police Academy School Fees And Courses
Nigeria Police Academy School Fees
The first thing to note about the Nigeria Police Academy is that it is not a money-making venture, and so its core concern is not to obtain money from students. Therefore, the academy does not charge students any money in the form of school fees. As a matter of fact, during the course of their studies, students are encouraged to report any officer who demands any form of monetary compensation in the form of fees or any other form of payment.
The reason behind this is that the authorities want to make the academy open to all people regardless of economic background. As long as they are of good character, and possess the mental and academic requirements; it does not matter whether the applicants are from poor backgrounds- they will be able to study at the Nigeria Police Academy.
However, all applicants are required to pay the sum of ₦3,500 for the application form. This payment is non-refundable and is often paid before the applicant is considered for entry into the academy. Furthermore, all applicants are to get the form only when they have met the JAMB cut-off mark for their year.
Nigeria Police Academy Courses
The Nigeria Police Academy was recently upgraded into a degree-awarding institution; which means the National Universities Commission now recognizes the academy as a Federal University. This means that the courses offered at the Academy are more than just promotional courses; they are real courses that can help one get real knowledge, and find real employment in other spheres of life.
The police academy in Nigeria has four faculties, subdivided into multiple departments. The following is a breakdown of the faculties, and the subsequent departments under them:
Faculty Of Management & Social Science
The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences is vital because this is where students can learn much of what it takes to do proper police work; such as psychology which will help one to understand the intentions and motives of suspects surrounding a case or Accounting which will help to actually spot discrepancies in reported figures so as to spot criminal activities. Under this Faculty there are the following departments:
Department of Sociology Department of Social Works
Department of Economics
Department of Psychology
Department of Political Science
Department of Banking & Finance
Department of Accounting
Faculty Of Science And Technology
This faculty will help the student to gain knowledge of the physical and chemical laws of life so that one can deduce the way and manner that criminals seek to manipulate them. The Faculty of Science and Technology provides training for degrees under the following departments.
Department of Physics
Department of Computer Science
Department of Mathematics
Department of Computer Science
Department of Chemistry
Department of Chemistry
Department of Biology

Faculty of Law
The police academy also has the Faculty of Law, which provides training in the field of law. It is very important to have at least a basic knowledge of law because the police force is supposed to enforce the law that governs and protects the citizens of the country. It is necessary to have some understanding of the laws one is enforcing; otherwise, it is just a waste of time.
However, law at the Nigerian police academy is a course of study that will help one operate like a professional; every student who completes this course will be awarded a degree in law; which can help them grow faster in the service.
Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is more or less about understanding the country to a greater degree, so as to be better equipped to protect it. Under the Faculty of Arts, one could study the appropriate courses so as to be immersed in the arts and culture of the country.
How Long Will One Be Required To Study?
The length of study will depend on the course of study in which the individual student intends to engage. For example; Cadet Inspector and ASP programs run for 18 months (72 weeks). The training course is usually subdivided into three learning stages of about six-month tenure each. The learning is divided into basic, intermediate, and advanced.
Graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy can quickly rise to important ranks in the Nigeria Police Force, or they can even serve in other sectors of the economy. Some have gone on to work in the private security field, or to take up management positions in commercial organizations. Many graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy have gone on to do well outside the country.
