WHAT IS JAMB CAPS PORTAL?

JAMB CAPS refer to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Central Admission Processing System. It is a system created so that the management can handle all admission processes while the CAPS Portal itself is the environment that houses the features of the JAMB Central Admission processing.

The JAMB CAPS is targeted to ensure transparency, quality control, and credibility of the admission process. About Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board

Interested candidates must have met the requirements set by the board such as obtaining the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), or its equivalent, National Examination Council (Nigeria), NECO.

Act (No. 2 of 1978) serves as the legal document backing the establishment of the Board and this was promulgated on 13th February 1978 by the Federal Military Government. The Federal Executive Council amended Decree No. 2 of 1978 in August 1988.

The amended Acts have since been transformed into Decree No. 33 of 1989, which kick-started from 7th December 1989. The board is empowered by Decree No. 2 of 1978 (amended by Decree No. 33 of 1989) to:

  • (a) JAMB is saddled with the responsibility to conduct Matriculation Examination for entry into all Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education (by whatever name called) in Nigeria.
  • (b) Examiners, Moderators, and Invigilators are appointed by JAMB, members of the Subject Panels and committees, and other persons with respect to matriculation examinations and any other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.
  • (c) JAMB place suitably qualified candidates in the tertiary institutions after having considered:
    • (i) The available vacancies in each tertiary institution
    • (ii) The guidelines that are approved for each tertiary institution by its head or other competent authorities
