  • 1. Obsolete and Decay of Facilities at Orientation Camps – DG.

Director General of NySC during the Batch B pre-orientation workshop 2016, in Calabar, organized by stakeholders in order to improve the current state of NYSC

The DG laments that the facilities at the various camps across the country are dilapidated, obsolete and inadequate to handle the ever increasing numbers of corp members. He call on the 3 tiers of government to live up to to its statutory roles in respect to the scheme.

The DG further call on Traditional rulers, security agencies, transport workers to offer support to corp members throughout the period of the exercise.

  • 2. Realignment of Core Orientation Course

The National Youth Service Corps has announced the realignment of its core orientation course to meet the current needs of the country. In reference to their official facebook page, more attention will be given to skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development with emphasis on Nigeria’s core values.

3. NYSC Free Health Care Service For Rural Dwellers

Free medical service are being taken to communities by The The National Youth Service Corps throughout the 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.

The goal of Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers was to mobilize corps medical volunteers in the provision of health interventions through diagnosis, treatment, referrals and proper preventive mechanism thereby enhancing the general wellbeing of rural dwellers across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria – said The current NYSC Director–General, Brigadier – General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure

  • 3. Partial mobilization: VCs direct universities to upload only ‘authentic graduates’ for NYSC

Following the demand of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, for partial mobilization  for the 2016 Batch B corps members. The Director-General of NYSC met with the Committee of Vice Chancellors, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) in Nigeria has released a directive urging institutions to only upload the names of “authentic graduates” for the service year, urging them not to include graduates of part-time programmes and over-aged graduates in their mobilisation list.

CVC and AVCNU pleaded with graduates and prospective corps members to show understanding to the turn of events and patiently await further directives from the NYSC.

  • 4. Why NYSC passing out parade was low key nationwide – Director General

while addressing the 2015 Batch ‘B’ Stream I set of corps members during their passing out on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja. Sule Kazaure, the NYSC Director-General Represented by Adewoye Omotayo, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, said the management of the scheme also held back the yearly ceremony due to current economic challenges facing the country.

A total of 7,298 corps members are expected to pass out of the service year in the 2015 Batch B.

“For now, only the 2015 Batch B stream I is passing out and they are 4,080.
“The rest of them who are in the 2015 Batch B stream II will pass out on Nov. 4, 2016.

Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, NYSC spokesperson in Abuja, said the allowance of corps members remained N19,800 and was not reduced to N14,800.

She said, “The management of the NYSC hereby refutes the content of the mischievous information circulating in the social media to the effect that corps members’ allowance has been slashed by 25 per cent.

    Why we’re mobilising 86, 000 nationwide – NYSC News Today

Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe said in an interview that the number of would-be corps members for the 2016 Batch B, was worked out as a percentage, and sent to heads of corps producing institutions, including vice chancellors of universities and rectors of polytechnics, who were directed to send participants based on the figures they were given.

This development is due to financial constraints occasioned by recession, only 86, 000 would be mobilised for the 2016 Batch B Orientation, from the massive backlog on queue for the national assignment.
This figure will bring to 260, 000, the total number of corps members mobilised this service year. – National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
