1. EAT A NIGERIAN FOOD
tasting the Nigerian cuisines is the number one on my list of things you should do in Nigeria. I can’t imagine you being in Nigeria and all you eat is food known in all part of the world. Having a taste of what the Nigerian local delicacies are is a sure way to feel you’re in the country and with over 250 languages in the country, you are sure of finding a meal that would entice you. As for me, Waina da Miyan Taushe (a Hausa food) is my favourite and I advise you give it a taste.
2. LEARN A NIGERIAN LANGUAGE
This particular point is directed to both foreigners and locals in the country but I just have to hit it hard more on the locals. How can you reside in your country and can’t speak a local language in that country, not even yours? It is now a trend that among young people that some of them can’t speak in their dialect. For your information, foreigners come into the country and passionately want to learn a Nigerian language. So what pride do you take in not being able to speak your language? With over 250 languages in Nigeria, you sure have an array of options to choose from.

Being in only state all your stay in Nigeria isn’t just it, you need to visit at least a state in each of the 6 geopolitical zones in the country. Reason for this is this; Nigeria is a multicultural state, divided into too geopolitical zones each having a peculiar characteristics so visiting these zones would give you an idea of the composition in the country. Visit the South-South to know about the Niger Deltas, the South East to get Igbos, South West to know about the Yorubas, North Central to get acquainted with the various ethnic groups in the region and the other part of Northern Nigeria to learn about the Hausas.
4. ATTEND A NIGERIAN FESTIVAL
Almost every other month in Nigeria, there is a festival going on. Timing your visit to coincide with one or more would be a great idea. Not only do they provide an insight into the rich culture of Nigeria, there’s also a lot of fun. Just to mention a few of the prominent festivals; the Osun/Osogbo festival, Calabar Festival, the Argungu fishing festival, the Eyo festival, the Black Heritage Festival, etc.
5. CLIMB A ROCK
Nigeria is not known to have the highest mountains in the world. That doesn’t mean there are no mountain to blow your mind off. Getting to the top of these mountains, you get a good view look at the surrounding settlement. Mountains you need to climb includes the Olumo rock, the gigantic Idanre high which has about 600 and something steps, the Mambilla Plateau, the Obudu Mountain where the Cattle Ranch is and many more.
6. VISIT A HISTORICAL SITE
There are several historical sites in Nigeria, ranging from Zungeru to Badawa. There is a lot to see. In Zungeru, you have the house where Lord Lugard brokered the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914. Coming to Badagry, there is a slave trade museum, the first story building in Nigeria and other sites. Several other historical sites exist too, from Ife to Kano and from Benin to Abuja, you get to know about the history of Nigeria.
7. WEAR A NIGERIAN ATTIRE
Forget the fitted suit and all those Western corporate wears in a second, do away with all the casual designers you are use to an rock a Nigerian attire. With all the beautiful and charismatic attire we have in Nigeria, am sure you would be proud to wear and snap with any of the Nigerian attire. Is it that of the Hausa-Fulani? The Igbo dress? Or the simple yet elegant Yoruba wears? Just name it. You just have to do this one.
8. SPEND A NIGHT IN A TYPICAL NIGERIAN VILLAGE
The views in the city might be cool, your hotel might have all you need, your companions or business partners would definately make you feel at home but for you to have a feel of Nigeria, you need to visit a village and spend a night over with the locals there. I bet you, you would have a different and interesting view about this neglected people who are the producers of what the urban dwellers feed on. More interesting it would be if you visit when a festival is going on.
9. VISIT A MUSEUM
A good way to learn about Nigeria is to visit a
museum to see some historic relics. Lagos is home to the National Museum, where you can see cultural artefacts and learn about the cultural and political history of country. Calabar is home to the Slave Trade Museum which provides a graphic history of the slave trade era.
10. VISIT THE YANKARI NATIONAL PARK
The Yankari National Park also known as the Yankari Games Reserve is the largest wildlife Park in the country. Throughout the year, foreigners are seen in this Park having a nice time. You can visit this Park to see wildlife in action in their natural habitat. Do you want to see a lion, elephant or baboons? Then visit the Yankari National Park. If you get there and can swim, don’t forget to swim in the Wikki warm spring. The water is always warm throughout the year.

Yeah…. You must have think you have been in the dating game for long and there’s nothing you haven’t seen but I tell you this… Welcome to Nigeria! Just give it a try and you would know we are indeed unique. Lovely babes, handsome guys, just name it. You however need to be careful as falling into a wrong hand is the same as jumping into the Atlantic Ocean.

Nigerian literary society may not be as advanced as their counterparts in other parts of the world, but there are several recognized authors whose books you will have a great time reading both locally and internationally. The likes of Chinua Achebe, Ben Okri, Chimamanda Adichie etc. You are bound to learn more about the country and the struggles of being an adult from reading their works.
15. VISIT A VERY BUSY NIGERIAN MOTOR PARK AND MARKET
Probably, you must have been the the type that us always in luxury, going to places meant for the rich and all that. A visit to these places would reveal to you the struggle of an average Nigerian. You can also have the feel of the crazy nature of the touts at the park.
16. VISIT AN ART/CRAFT MARKET
A visit to Nigeria would be incomplete without buying and taking back some beautiful locally-
made artworks. There are wearable art pieces, ranging from beads to fabrics, or decorative pieces ranging from sculptures to paintings and furniture.
