Education is an important sector in any country. The inability to focus very well on the educational sector will lead to the generation of uneducated youths that will cause great havoc in the country.

Nigeria has over 176 Universities offering thousands of courses. Out of all these universities, some are rated to be the best while others are also rated to be the worst.

The distribution is based on the teaching method and quality of graduates produced from these universities. 

That is, the worst Universities are known to offer the worst teaching methods which in turn produce the worst graduates. The reverse is the same for universities rated good.

Top 10 Worst Universities in Nigeria

  • 1. Spiritan University, Nneochi

The Spiritan University occupies the first position in the list of worst Universities in Nigeria. The University name is derived from the Latin word “Spiritus” which means “Spirit”.

The university was rumored to be founded with the belief of answering the call to the participation of the private sector in education. 

The school was listed as one of the worst universities in Nigeria due to the teaching method and lack of adequate learning equipment. Also, most of the courses offered in the University are not accredited and this poses a very strong doubt in the mind of people about the University.

  • 2. Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences

Another private University on the list is Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences. The University was founded in 2017 in Lagos State, Ijanikin Area to be precise. 

The school is a private institution that is recognized by the National University Commission. However, most of the courses offered in the school are not accredited and this has impacted the school negatively.

The programs offered by the school include Medicine, Human Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry, Pharmacology, etc. Also, the school is currently running some postgraduate courses.

  • 3. Legacy University, Okija

The third worst University in Nigeria is Legacy University, which is located in Okija. Being a Private University, the school is also accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) with most of the courses battling to get accredited.

Currently,  the school has 19 Undergraduates programs. The number of postgraduate courses offered at the university is currently unknown.

The current country rank of the University is 155 and rank 12810 in the World. 

  • 4. Hezekiah University

Founded in 2015, Hezekiah University is the fourth-worst University in Nigeria.

 Founded in Umudi, Nkwerre Imo State, Nigeria, the official website of the university is www.hezekiah.edu.ng. The courses offered in the University include Arts and Humanities, Business and Management, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Natural Sciences. 

The school is listed as one of the worst schools in Nigeria because of the nature of academic teaching they offer their student compare with the standard educational teaching. 

  • 5. Dominican University

The fifth on the list is the Dominican University which is located in Ibadan, Oyo State. The university is a private university that offers numerous undergraduate courses in Nigeria. 

Some of the courses offered in the University include Accounting, Botany, Business Administration, Chemistry, and Christian Religious Studies, Computer Science, Economics, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics and Zoology

The other courses suppose to be offered in the University were either not accredited by the National Universities Commission or have not been created by the University.

  • 6. Kwarafa University, Wukari

The sixth worst University in Nigeria is Kwarafa University located in Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria. With “Education for Total Development” as the motto.

Some of the courses offered in the University include Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Criminology, Mass Communication, Geography, Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Political Science and International Science, Public Administration, Sociology, 

  • 7. Eastern Palm University

In terms of the educational standard and quality of graduates produced. Eastern Palm University is the first Nigerian university with a public and private partnership located in Imo State, Nigeria. Licensed by the National Universities Commission in 2016, the university is ranked as the 151st in the country and 12593 in the world rank.  

  • 8. Clifford University

Clifford University is the eighth-worst university in Nigeria. The school is a newly chartered institution by the Ministry of Education

It is another private University that is recognized by the National University Commission. However, most of the courses offered in the school are not accredited and this has impacted the school negatively.

Located in Abia State, the school was approved in 2016 and the current vice-chancellor is Professor Chimezie Omeonu.

  • 9. Hallmark University

The second to the last on the list is Hallmark University. Located in Shagamu-Ore Expressway, Ijebu-Itele, Ogun State, Nigeria. The university currently offers programs both in the undergraduate and postgraduate categories. 

The university is also known for having a very low student and staff population. The school also has some rumor regarding the quality of graduates produced and the standard of teaching in the school.

  • 10. Christopher University

The last university in the list of worst Universities in Nigeria is Christopher University. Unlike other listed Universities, the university is known for having a bit higher level of academic excellence. 

The school is known for offering numerous undergraduates and postgraduates programs and this is clearly shown in the type of graduates produced by the University.
