  • Port-Harcourt has been in existence before Nigeria’s amalgamation

Nigeria’s amalgamation came about in 1914 when the first British governor-general decided to join the Northern and Southern Protectorates. Meanwhile, the establishment of Port Harcourt can be traced back to 1912 and this was the year Nigeria’s British governor general [Frederick Lord Lugard] made it a terminal for the coal imported from another Nigerian city –Enugu.
