Nigerian Law School Fees , Courses and Admission Requirement

The Nigerian Law School is one of the most prestigious, respected and credible school in Nigeria. This was created in 1962 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide a Nigerian legal education to foreign-trained lawyers and to provide practical training for aspiring Legal Practitioners in Nigeria. Prior to this time, Legal Practitioners get trained in England and then called to the England Bar.

For every aspiring Legal Practitioner in Nigeria, attending the Law School is a prerequisite that must be fulfilled. Because of this, The Nigerian Law School had graduated over 70,000 Law students who must have obtained a university degree in Law before enrollment. In this citadel of learning, The Council of Legal Education gives certificates to students who pass the Bar Part II examinations and these students are then called to the Bar.

The Institution currently has 6 campus scattered around the country. The first being the Lagos Campus established in 1962. In 1997, the NLS headquarters was relocated in Bwari, Abuja. As at the time of relocation, the community had no hospital, banking services and even telephone services. In fact, the campus itself wasn’t completed as the hostel and auditorium was still under construction. Portable water was also absent as the campus had to construct a borehole to provide it portable water need. The other campuses includes the Augustine Nnamani Campus in Agbani, Enugu State, Bagauda campus in Kano State, the campus in Yenagoa, Bayelsa and the one in Yola, Adamawa State.

NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL COURSES

They offer courses in criminal litigation, civil litigation, property law practice, corporate law practice and law in practice (ethics and skills). All these courses are been offered in all the campuses since they have the same syllabus.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Before you can be enrolled here, you need to be a Law graduate from an approved law faculty.

In Nigeria, Law is a 5-year course

The undergraduate curriculum requires law students to study 12 compulsory core law courses-

  • Legal Methods, Nigerian Legal System, Contract Law, Constitutional Law, Company Law, Law of Torts, Commercial Law, Law of Equity and Trusts, Criminal Law, Land Law, Law of Evidence, and Jurisprudence.

NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL FEES

The Nigerian Law School fees is quite high, discouraging the poor from going into the profession. The fees is currently N250,000 for Nigerian students and N650,000 for foreign students. However, the Admission acceptance fees is N20,000.
